Center services

Heart Center UMC was built on the instructions of the Head of State N.A. Nazarbayev to improve access tertiary cardiologic, cardiac surgery and intervention cardiologic service and comprehensive rehabilitative care for patients after cardiac surgery.
The Center has 200 beds. Admission of patients to the Center is being carried out since 12 October 2011. The Center brings together all areas of modern cardiology, cardiac surgery, intervention cardiology and renders assistance both to adults and children.

The major clinical trends of the center are as follows:

1. Providing cardiologic and cardiac surgical care to adults, including patients with end-stage heart failure.
2. Providing cardiologic and cardiac surgical care to infants and children.
3. Providing intervention cardiologic and arrhythmologic patient care.
4. Providing comprehensive rehabilitation to patients.

To date, the Center has over 900 employees, including 154 physicians and 373 paramedical personnel. In 2012, the Center treated more than 7,000 patients, performed 9570 surgeries, including 2401 open heart surgeries. Among the patients who received treatment 1700 were children, of whom 585 were operated, including 83 new- born children. Along with this, the Center is actively working on three innovative clinical projects in treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease: Surgical treatment of :

• chronic cardiac insuffciency,
• intervention treatment of valvular heart disease,
• intervention interference for congenital heart defects in children.

Since the opening of the Center 21 innovative techniques were introduced. At the same time in (2011-2018), over 3400 unique surgeries were performed.
 
Cardiac

• Implantation of LVAD operations using a ROC Safe modular perfusion system. 
• Heart transplantation.
• Coronary arterial bypass graft with the use of Cardioblate system intraoperative radiofrequency ablation.
• Replacement of heart valves with the use of Cardioblate system intraoperative radiofrequency ablation.
• Cardiac surgery using minimally invasive access.
• Sutureless implantation of biological aortic valve.
• Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation as a method for the treatment of severe cardiac and respiratory failure.

Intervention cardiology

• Transcatheter closure of the interventricular septum defect.
• Percutaneous transcatheter implantation of aortic valve.
• Mitral valve clipping.
• Balloon valvuloplasty of mitral stenosis.
• Method of renal denervation for the treatment of resistant hypertension Transcatheter closure of the left atrial appendage.

December 13, 2011 Heart Ware Ventricle Assist Device (VAD) - device of the latest generation has been implanted, thereby Kazakhstan ranked among the 22 countries of the world, conducting a unique, high-technology open-heart surgery. Unique feature of this device is the opportunity of its implantation in patients with low weight, and as both left-and right ventricular assist device that is actually a complete analog of donor heart.
August 8, 2012 for the first time a patient with chronic heart failure has been transplanted a donor heart. During 2011-2020, on the basis of the Center about 20 innovative medical technologies will be introduced:

• including minimally invasive heart failure treatment methods
• transplantation of heart and «heart – lungs» complex
• nonsurgical methods of treatment of coronary heart disease
• surgical treatment of congenital heart defects in children from the first hours of life.

The partners of the Center will be the leading clinics of the world: Germany, Italy, Belgium, France, Turkey, USA.
The main areas will be as follows:

• Development of minimally invasive methods of heart failure treatment
• Robotic heart surgery
• Development of transplantology
• Non-surgical treatments for coronary heart disease
• Development of neonatal cardiac surgery
• Development of fetal cardiac surgery Today, at the Center 25 physicians are engaged in teaching activity under the specialties «Cardiac surgery» and «Cardiology», «Radiology» and «Functional diagnosis».

In addition, within the public educational order for post-graduate professional education for the 2016-2017 academic years, the following residency specialties were opened:
